I’m about to pack and head off to PA for a few days with some friends. Ill try and tweet a few if i get any signal, but I probably won’t have any most of the time. See ya when I get back all ye readers!
I’m convinced that Werner Herzog can talk about anything and I’ll be right with him locked in complete attention, listening to every word. His films seem to really be about larger than life characters that have larger than life ideas and dreams. The scale of his filmmaking matches the characters in them.
Many directors have a certain actor that the work with a lot. An actor that they mesh well with, someone they don’t have to explain everything to because on some level they understand each other. Klaus Kinski is Herzog’s actor.
I think in times like this, when acting means Megan Fox running in slow motion through a desert, it’s important to remember that there was/is some actors out there that have given every piece of themselves to cinema. It’s important to remember that there is more out there than what is playing at the local cinema.
I really enjoy Herzog’s documentary, My Best Fiend, it’s all about Kinski and the madman he was. You can watch it below…
It starts off with no subtitles in the beginning but it’s dubbed soon after…
Yesterday we set up shop at the Bane/Sick of It All show here in NYC. It was good times and we met a bunch of really cool, really nice people. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our table, picked something up, or simply just indulged in our sumptuous bowl of free candy!
We even had the pleasure of meeting Toby of H2O. He’s in town for a show they have tonight at knitting factory. We got to take some great shots of him in our “All In” tee. He’s a super nice guy and his son really appreciated our free candy! You can see Max below, next to his pops, rocking an Only Ones Pin!
I guess now would be a good time to talk about the story behind our “All In” tee.
In this design there is an obvious theme of poker, but on a greater scale, we use poker as a metaphor for the game of life. The main driving message is going “all in”. It’s about following your dreams, as corny and cliché as that may sound these days. One of the greatest joys you can feel in this life is giving yourself totally over to something and watching it grow. That’s what this shirt is about; it’s about doing what you love, even when the “cards” are stacked against you.
The basic design of the shirt is based off of Bicycle playing cards. I really liked the simplicity of the design as well as the font used up top. I couldn’t find the right font to match that “steeze” so I hand drew our own play off that font. The center of the shirt is tattoo inspired, complete with skull, roses and, of course, playing cards. I wanted to keep this a simple line drawing; clean, and smooth.
“I’m All In” is a common term in poker playing but we also used it in reference to a song called “Ante Up” by Bane. Bane is the type of band that never gets old for me, I can listen to them constantly and it still feels as powerful and inspiring as the first time.
About two years ago I got into this band, they inspired me to start up this brand, I made this shirt, which is heavily influenced by them, and then last night I’m talking to them about it and Zach Jordan of Bane got his own “All In” tee. I guess things have come full circle in that sense.
Well, for now I’m gonna leave you guys with two videos. One from Bane, and one from H2O, two great bands that are well worth the listen. Two bands that have been around for a while and it’s no mystery why.
