Not too many would argue that Martin Scorsese is one of the best American film directors we have. Even if we forgot about every other movie he has made, I think Goodfellas alone proves that he is an amazing director. His latest film, Shutter Island, is a bit different than where he’s gone in the past and that’s a good thing. It’s a tad on the wack side when artists always stick with the “safe” thing and never explore other subjects and ideas.

I really enjoyed Shutter Island and, for a movie that’s over 2 hours long, I never found myself bored or waiting for the credits to roll. Leonardo DiCaprio plays a pretty complex role here. As the film goes on there’s some pretty deeply emotional stuff that happens to his character. The film itself looks great, there’s some pretty interesting visuals going on in the film. I noticed a few times in the film certain quick things that if you blinked you would have never seen.

Some people are saying that this movie is lame because they didn’t dig the twist at the end. I’m saying, yea, it wasn’t that great of a twist but thats ok, the movie still entertained me. I’m also saying, its pretty lame when I review a movie that I just like and don’t either LOVE or HATE! That’s it, I gotta watch a shitty movie, I’ll be back.
