PDT

I€™ve always had an affinity for bars. All types of bars, from the nicest to the biggest dives you€™ve ever seen. I€™ve worked at a bar, and frequent bars constantly. The term barfly absolutely applies to me. Even though I have gone to clubs and don€™t mind them once and a while, I prefer to drink and enjoy the atmosphere compared to places like clubs which are a little too abrasive for me. I like to actually talk to my friends, not have to shout over music. Working in the east village, there€™s a plethora of cool bars and this one happens to be, I think, one of the coolest, stylish and classiest.

PDT, short for Please Don€™t Tell, is recommended spot for bar aficionados like myself. PDT€™s speak easy door had me hooked from the very beginning. You enter into a happening East Village hot dog spot called Crif Dogs (phenomenal hot dogs, by the way) located on St. Marks Place. Glance over to your left, enter the telephone booth, pick up the receiver and press the only button available. A woman picks up and asks the size of your party. If they have the space, the back wall of phone booth slides open and you€™ve just entered a speak easy. Cozy would be a good word to describe the size of PDT€™s low ceilings and narrow area. Great cocktails would be an understatement. All around $14, these drinks are like works of art. This place has the music at a low reasonable level, and this is not the place to get loud or rowdy. PDT is more to sit, enjoy a drink and chat with whatever company you€™ve brought. If you do go, read the rules posted in the bathroom for a better understanding of the code of conduct at PDT (and grab one of their business cards on the way out, definitely one of best designed cards I€™ve ever seen).
